Judith Gethner, MA Special educationJudith Gethner is the mother of an 18-year-old AD/HD child with executive function disorder, non-verbal learning disabilities, as well as significant perceptual learning disabilities. She has served many years as an Educational Consultant to the Chicago Public School system's severely disabled population. Ms. Gethner holds a Master of Arts degree in Special Education, with specialties in Behavioral Disorders, Emotionally Disturbed, Learning Disabilities, and Socially Maladjusted. For more than ten years, Ms. Gethner had been active in CHADD, the nation's leading resource and support group for families coping with AD/HD. Her leadership includes providing direct parent support on the organization's help line. Over the past four years, Ms. Gethner has been the parent liaison at Glenbrook North and South high schools' for parents of students with IEPs (Individual Education Plans.) In this role, she has partnered with the Superintendent of Special Education School District 225 to create and conduct specialized monthly programs for these parents. She has also participated on a panel of parents and medical practitioners on the issues and challenges of raising an ADD child as a single parent. |
